Yes. When the car engine turns off, the Proof Dash Cam switches to standby mode.

While in standby mode, you can:

1. Watch real-time video (in 30-second increments for up to 8 hours in total).
To do so:
•Select ‘Click to preview camera video remotely’ in your Proof mobile app
•The SIM card must be installed and activated

2. Receive notifications only when damage occurs or when the camera is triggered.

Important notes about standby mode:

•The live video feed will automatically disconnect after 30 seconds.
•Communication with the camera can be initiated for up to 8 consecutive hours with the engine off. However, it is not recommended to use this feature as a constant feed as it may damage the car’s battery life.
•The SD card will always store any triggered events of damage.

The short answer: When your car turns on. Or when the camera’s sensor detects damage to the vehicle.

The long answer:

When the vehicle’s engine is on, the camera will turn on and automatically record the drive. In the event of an accident, the camera will automatically store the footage of the incident on your memory card. Or, if you have an activated SIM card in the camera, the footage will be sent to the cloud. The incident file will be saved as an “un-erasable file” (a type of computer memory that can retain stored information even after power is removed.)

When the vehicle’s engine is off, Proof will reactivate and turn on when the built-in G sensor detects damage to the vehicle.

Time Lapse Feature (under ‘Settings’)
If you have chosen to use the time-lapse feature, it will take 3 images per second for as long as you have programmed time-lapse to stay on once the engine is turned off. The standard default is 8 hours from engine shut off. The time-lapse feature will stop when the pre-set time has ended, or if the vehicle’s battery discharge begins to run low.

The time-lapse feature does not produce video footage. However, 3 images per second pressed together provides an output very similar to video, without using significant amounts of memory space or battery power.

In this case, Proof has you covered in several ways:

1. You have a 280° view of the exterior of your vehicle — and you have remote access to the footage (with an activated SIM card installed).

2. Your Proof dash cam has a GPS device embedded into it, so you will always be able to locate your vehicle.

3. The Proof dash cam also has a 2-way voice feature so you can actually speak directly to whoever is in your vehicle.

No, Proof comes equipped with everything you’ll need for a standard install.

During installation, the camera is connected to the fuse panel. This allows the Proof system to be activated when the engine is running or when there is impact to your vehicle, and it is “woken up” by the motion sensor.

This also allows the camera to use minimal amounts of power when the engine is off. Additionally, it has an internal system that puts the camera in ‘sleep mode’ when the vehicle’s spare voltage reaches a certain low point.

Proof comes standard with a 64 GB memory card.
The system supports the largest memory card size currently on the market which is 2 TB — however, we recommend using a memory card no larger than 512 GB.

Yes, the dash cam can be easily uninstalled, and then reinstalled into a new vehicle. The only thing that will need replacement is the double-sided adhesive tape.

Yes! There is an application available on both the Google and Apple App stores. Once installed, you will receive automatic updates from your phone or tablet when there are new features available.

If the SIM card is activated and installed, the app will send push notifications directly to your phone in real time for events like:

•The vehicle has been turned on/off
•Any incident while driving and while parked, like a collision or security breach
•When the vehicle has entered/exited a pre-set geographic area
•If the vehicle is exceeding the maximum speed you’ve selected
•If the vehicle is in a pre-set location for any amount of time exceeding what you have determined

Yes, you can connect with the same account number to multiple phones. Currently the app can only provide push notifications to one phone at a time. In the future notifications to several phones will be possible.

There are two ways:

1. Press and hold the activation button for 4 seconds, which is located on the right side of the main camera. The system will audibly announce that Wi-Fi has been activated.

or

2. Do this through the app. On the camera’s settings screen, you will see a switch for Wi-Fi. Once switched to the “on” position, Wi-Fi will be activated.

Note: In both modes, the Wi-Fi turns off when the vehicle is turned off and must be restarted the next time it is driven.

You can make the initial connection as you do with any Wi-Fi network:
1. Find the network that starts with “PROOF” and each individual network will be followed by the last 4 digits of the IMEI# (you can find this on a sticker on the camera.)

2. Click to connect and enter the password 12345678 to connect.

Moving forward, every time you turn on the Wi-Fi, your phone will automatically connect to the PROOF system.

You can easily connect to the app from your new phone. Once you have installed the app, you can sign in using your existing account. We strongly suggest changing your password in the event of a stolen phone.

The Proof dash cam is powered by the vehicle’s battery, ensuring it is always ready to record. When the vehicle is on, the camera is actively powered and records footage. When the vehicle is off and parked, there are two options to choose from:
Option 1: The camera is triggered only in case of an incident or tampering and continues to receive minimal power from the battery to record and send notifications. This option is recommended to conserve the vehicle’s battery power.
Option 2: The camera remains active even while the vehicle is off and parked. This option might drain the car battery and is not recommended.
